Cascade Range
Often called the American Alps, the Cascade Range has ice covered peaks which form what is formally known as the North Cascades National Park Service Complex. The Cascades also include the Ross Lake National Recreation Area and the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. The complex is home to mule deer, white tailed deer, black bears, mountain goats, bobcats, and mountain lions, who help keep the balance of nature. There are 360 miles of hiking trails along which you can see tumbling waterfalls, snow capped mountains, wooded hills and alpine meadows rich in blooming flowers and lush greenery.
The Ross Lake NRA and the Lake Chelan NRA hosts a number of resorts and activities. Some of the accommodations include Ross Lake Resort (206-386-44337), the Cascade Mountain Inn (360-826-4333) or campgrounds like Goodell Creek or Purple Point. While visiting you can enjoy bus tours, guided nature walks, evening campfire programs, hiking, boating, fishing, horseback riding, rafting on the Skagit River, and cross country skiing.
